Welcome to Swell Counselling Services

Supporting Your Mental Health Journey

Welcome - you're not alone here.

At Swell Counselling Services, we're dedicated to supporting you through life's challenges with care, attentiveness, and acceptance. Whether you're wrestling with anxiety, grief, relationship dynamics, perfectionism, or questions about self-worth (to name a few), we're here to walk with you.

Together, we'll build a path forward - exploring what shapes you, cultivating understanding, and nurturing your inner resilience. It takes courage to reach out, and by being here today, you've already taken a meaningful step towards healing.

About Us

At Swell Counselling Services, we understand that life's journey can feel like navigating open, stormy waters - and it's not meant to be a solo endeavour. We believe in creating a compassionate, inclusive space where adults can safely explore their experiences, challenge self-critical beliefs, and cultivate self-compassion. Our practice recognizes the complex and intersectional nature of identity - whether that's culture, gender identity, sexuality, age, spirituality, socioeconomic status, or ability - and we're committed to offering therapy that respects and affirms every aspect of who you are.

Clients work collaboratively with us to clarify their goals, reflect on life experiences (including those that may feel traumatic), and understand the deeper patterns that influence their day-to-day life. Utilizing evidence-based interventions such as IFS, DBT, EMDR, CBT, and mindfulness techniques (just to name a few), we help to foster emotional awareness and meaningful growth in a safe, nonjudgmental environment.

Couples & Family

Counselling Services

Whether you're navigating relationship dynamics, communication challenges, or shifts in family roles, our couples and family counselling offers a compassionate space to rebuild trust, strengthen connection, and enhance understanding through emotionally attuned and inclusive approaches.

Children (ages 5+)

Counselling Services

Children ages 5 and up are supported in our Vancouver (Moberly) office, where Kristie has created a welcoming, play-based space with comfort items and activities to help kids feel safe and engaged. Sessions focus on emotional regulation, building confidence, and supporting families through life changes, with parent collaboration included as part of the process.

Trauma Informed

In a warm and grounded environment, we approach therapy with awareness of how trauma shapes thoughts, behaviours, and emotional safety. Using compassionate modalities like EMDR and IFS, we work to gently process difficult experiences while grounding you in resilience and growth.

Individual

Counselling Services

You'll receive personalized one-on-one support - virtual or in person, depending on clinician - to explore life's challenges such as anxiety, self-worth, grief, and perfectionism. Using an integrative approach (IFS, DBT, EMDR, CBT, mindfulness, etc), we collaborate to reflect on patterns, challenge self-critical beliefs, and cultivate self-compassion in a supportive and tailored process.

Youth (ages 12+)

Counselling Services

Youth ages 12 and older can access counselling in person at our Vancouver office or virtually across BC. Kristie works collaboratively with teens to explore challenges like anxiety, school stress, self-esteem, and identity development, while providing a supportive space for self-expression and skill-building.

Neurodivergent-Affirming

We recognize neurodiversity as a valid and powerful way of being - not something to be fixed. Our affirming approach honours your unique neurodivergent experience and tailors therapy to support your strengths, encourage authenticity, and avoid harmful pressure to mask.

Unmasking YYJ
ADHD Skills & Support Groups

In addition to the services offered at Swell, our founder Amelia co-facilitates Unmasking YYJ, a separate practice run in partnership with another incredible clinician (Ciara Harte).

Unmasking YYJ offers ADHD-affirming groups for adults (19+), creating space for skills-building, self-understanding, and community connection.

If you're interested in learning more about these groups, please visit the Unmasking YYJ website here.

We believe healing happens in relationship. We work alongside you with warmth, curiosity, and respect - never as the expert of your life, but as a supportive guide walking with you.

Neurodivergent- & Trauma- Informed

Our practice honours the ways your brain and body uniquely process the world. We integrate neurodivergent-affirming and trauma-informed approaches to create safety, reduce shame, and empower your voice in therapy.

Practical & Sustainable

We focus on tools and insights that fit into your real life. Our goal is to help you build resilience and skills you can carry with you, long after your sessions are complete.
